Apple's iPad and SimpleSignal Work Together as a Phone SystemApple’s (News - Alert) popular iPad technically doesn’t offer the ability to make phone calls, but SimpleSignal has figured out a way to make the iPad “talk” using SimpleSignal’s virtual PBX (News - Alert) phone system technology. According to a recent SimpleSignal blog post, now mobile workers can manage work calls through the “cloud” so they can make and receive phone calls from anywhere in the world from Apple’s iPad. Users can use any Internet-connected device, including cell phones and computers, as if the call were going through their office line. They can also start a phone call on one device and transfer it to another device mid-call. By pressing *11 on a SimpleSignal (News - Alert) office phone system, a user can transfer that call to a cellphone or iPad. Seamlessly the call is transferred from the office LAN onto the cellular network. The iPad has an excellent speaker microphone making the iPad perfectly suited for conference calls, too. Users can remotely dial into a meeting even if the room it is in doesn’t have a conference calling system. The app was still in its early stages this summer, but once iPads have the ability to perform multiple tasks at once, as Apple just started allowing on the iPhone (News - Alert), it could become an ideal device for looking at slides, or manipulating shared documents while simultaneously taking a call. By enabling the iPad for voice, SimpleSignal gives its clients yet another option for fielding their phone calls. In addition, now that Wi-Fi is being offered by most of the major airlines for longer flights, users can employ VoIP over Wi-Fi just about anywhere, on the ground or in the air, according to Simple Signal. SimpleSignal says it is constantly looking for ways to increase its ability to offer customers the opportunity to communicate anywhere, at any time. SimpleSignal has the ability to provide companies with a hosted PBX phone system and unified communications solution with more features and functionality than an expensive traditional PBX.
